Pinterest marketing
for interior designers.

Pinterest is a search engine wearing a feed's clothes. Once you accept that, almost everything a studio does there changes.

The one fact that changes the strategy

On Instagram, distribution is decided by a feed algorithm within a few hours of posting. After about seventy-two hours a post is finished, and whatever it earned is what it will ever earn.

On Pinterest, distribution is decided mostly by search. People arrive typing small kitchen storage ideas or 2 BHK living room layout, and the pins that answer those queries keep being surfaced for months or years. A pin published today can still be sending traffic in two years.

For a studio sitting on an archive of interior imagery, that is an unusually good trade: the images already exist, the work is re-cropping and describing them, and the return accumulates rather than evaporating.

What to pin, and at what size

Pins are 1000 × 1500 pixels — a 2:3 vertical. That is taller than an Instagram post, which means the 4:5 crop is usually re-cropped from the original render rather than reused directly. Check the source resolution before planning: an image that was tight at 1080 × 1350 will not survive being pulled to 1500 tall.

What performs, for an interiors account
Pin typeWhy it works on Pinterest
Single room, vertical, unclutteredMatches how people search: by room and by feeling
Storage and small-space solutionsAmong the most searched interior categories anywhere
Material and palette boardsSaved heavily during planning, which is when a client is choosing a studio
Before and after, same camera positionLegible value to a non-designer
Layout and plan diagramsAlmost nobody publishes these, and people search for them constantly

Write descriptions the way people search

This is where most studio accounts fail. Pinterest reads the board name, the pin title and the description as searchable text. Living room vibes ✨ is invisible. Compact living room with full-height built-in storage, oak and off-white, in a Hyderabad apartment is findable, and it is also just an accurate description.

Board names follow the same rule. Inspo and Our Work tell the system nothing. Small Apartment Living Rooms, Kitchen Storage Ideas and Bedroom Wardrobes tell it exactly where to file everything inside.

Link every pin to a real page

A pin's commercial value is the click, and the click needs somewhere worth landing. Link to the specific project page, not to the homepage — somebody who saved a compact kitchen wants to see that kitchen, and a homepage forces them to search for it. If there is no project page, the pin is building an audience for Pinterest rather than for the studio.

The project-page structure is here.

Honest expectations

Pinterest is slow and then it is not. For the first two or three months, very little appears to happen, because pins are still being indexed and distributed. Studios that judge it at six weeks conclude it does not work and stop — which is the same mistake made with search, and for the same reason.

It is also a traffic channel rather than an enquiry channel. People arrive early in planning, save things, and come back. Treated as a compounding asset alongside the monthly feed work, it is worth the effort. Treated as a lead source to be evaluated next month, it will disappoint.

Questions studios ask

Is Pinterest worth it for interior designers?

Yes, for a specific reason: Pinterest behaves like a search engine rather than a feed, so a pin keeps returning traffic for months or years after it is published, while an Instagram post is effectively finished within days. For interiors — a category people actively search on Pinterest while planning a project — it is the highest-leverage second channel, and it costs little once the images already exist.

What is the right pin size for interior design?

1000 x 1500 pixels, a 2:3 ratio. Taller pins get truncated in the feed and square pins occupy less vertical space, which matters because Pinterest is browsed in a scrolling column. The same 4:5 crop used for an Instagram post can usually be re-cropped to 2:3 from the original render without reshooting anything.

How often should an interior designer pin?

Consistency matters more than volume — a few pins several times a week sustained over months outperforms a burst of fifty followed by silence. Because pins accumulate rather than expire, the compounding effect only appears after several months, which is why most studios abandon Pinterest just before it starts working.

Should interior designers use keywords on Pinterest?

Yes, and this is the main thing studios get wrong. Pinterest reads the board name, the pin title and the description as search text, so a pin captioned 'living room vibes' is invisible while one described as 'compact living room with built-in storage in a Hyderabad apartment' is findable. Write descriptions the way somebody would search, not the way you would caption.

Can Pinterest actually generate interior design leads?

It generates website visits reliably and enquiries indirectly. The realistic model is that Pinterest sends people who are early in planning to a project page, and the project page converts a fraction of them later. It is a slow, compounding channel and it should not be judged on the same timescale as paid search.

We can run both channels from one archive

The same sorted archive feeds the feed and the pins. Send one render and we will return one finished piece so you can see the standard first.
